Lesson Plans for Yasser and Zahra Meet the Saviour of Islam

Sun Behind The Cloud Publications is pleased to present 12 lesson plans designed to be delivered over the first 12 nights of Muharram. They are planned with an online learning environment in mind and can be pre-recorded YouTube videos, zoom lessons or even taught face-to-face (with social distancing rules in place).
It is our hope that we can deliver the message of Imam Husayn to children in a unique way. By following Yasser and Zahra on their journey of discovery, we hope that the children realise that what happened to Imam Husayn is not a story relegated to the pages of history, or folklore told from the mimbar. We hope that they realise that these events actually happened, and that there are so many lessons we can learn that will change the way we live our lives, connect to the Imam of our time and improve our relationship with Allah.
The contents of Yasser and Zahra Meet The Saviour of Islam has been checked rigorously for historical accuracy by Hujjatul Islam Shaykh Dr. Mohammad Saeed Bahmanpour.
Please feel free to adapt lesson plans to suit your community. Further ideas for discussion points can be found in the book in the chapter entitled “Reflection Time” on page 190.
The layout of the lessons include lesson objectives, an introduction to the topic, 3 readings from the book with discussion points and an activity to do at home. The activities are set for 5-8 year olds and 9-13 year olds. We have aimed to appeal to a wide variety of learners and the activities include crafts, challenges, poem writing, reflections, experiments, and the like. We have also aimed to make sure no special materials are needed and everything used can be usually found around the home or bought from a local store.
We pray that the Almighty accepts our efforts and rewards us with a seat on the Ark of Salvation!
